INTRODUCTION |
In its second quarter earnings report released on August 7, 2018, US-based Snap Inc., (Snap) parent company of the popular messaging app Snapchat, said that the number of its daily active users (DAU) had shrunk to 188 million from 191 million users in the previous quarter. This was the first ever quarterly drop in the number of users since 2014 (See Exhibit I) for a company that had disrupted social media space with features like multimedia messaging, augmented reality, and ephemeral photo messaging.
Spiegel attributed the decline to “a slightly lower frequency of use among our user base due to the disruption caused by our redesign.”..
